A Big Start for Lighter Capital at SaaStr Annual 2016

Updated: Nov 1, 2023

We had a huge first day at SaaStr Annual 2016 and we’re coming back for more!

The Lighter Capital booth was busy from the get-go on Day 1, and we had dozens of conversations with SaaS company founders, CxOs, VPs, and many others. We love talking with startups, because we’re a startup too, so it’s always great to swap stories and talk shop. One of the best parts of conferences like SaaStr Annual is meeting people face-to-face, or as the kids say, IRL.

Our CEO BJ Lackland emceed two great sessions featuring execs from Buffer and LiveRamp. It was standing room only in the SaaStr Annual Tactical Theater, and the crowd asked good questions of Leo Widrich, Co-Founder and COO of Buffer, and Auren Hoffman, Co-Founder of Liveramp (currently at Siftly). Both sessions focused on lessons the speakers learned from building their companies from the ground up.

Widrich’s talk, “10 Learnings from Going to $10 Million” focused on things Buffer has learned as they’ve grown, from marketing channels to managing data. One of his suggestions was to not get too distracted by data early on, and to make sure you’re getting qualitative data in addition to quantitative data to understand your customers.

Hoffman talked about what he’s learned after successfully starting and exiting companies, including LiveRamp. He urged startups to consider “putting themselves in a defined box,” saying it’s just as important to define what you’re not going to do as what you are going to do so you can truly focus. He also told startups to identify and focus on a small but fast-growing market they can dominate, and then look to expand to adjunct markets.

A few friends joined us for the Lighter Capital Happy Hour.

Our investment team is here in full force and would love to talk with you about your company, so stop by Booth #1 near the main entrance and say hello. Scan your badge or leave a business card to enter our drawing for an Apple Watch.

We're excited to show you how our startup financing works and discuss how much capital you could receive if your company qualifies.

We’re also sponsoring Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m. each day, so cheers to all of you from all of us at Lighter Capital!
